Buheri Farms in Katito

Zusammen mit unserem langjährigen Partner Edward Kute, haben wir in Katito, einer kleinen Stadt in Kisumu County in der Nähe des Viktoriasees, ein weiteres Projekt ins Leben gerufen: Buheri Farms. 

Buheri Farms existiert seit 2017. Es handelt sich hierbei um einen Gemüsebauernhof, der mit nachhaltigen Technologien betrieben wird. Seit 2017 haben wir zusammen mit Edward verschiedene Verfahren implementiert um die Bewirtschaftung nachhaltiger und ökologischer zu gestalten. Durch Tropfbewässerung wird der Wasserverbrauch minimiert, sieben Teiche speichern bis zu 300 000 Liter Wasser und Schattennetze reduzieren die Schäden durch starke Sonneneinstrahlung. 

Bis 2030 soll Buheri Farms ein erfolgreiches, regionales Unternehmen sein, dass mit klimaresistenter Technologie nachhaltig betrieben wird.

Zusätzlich zum Anbau verschiedener Gemüsesorten laufen die Pläne für unser erstes Spirulinabecken vor Ort.

Spirulina

Neben der Etablierung von innovativen Anbaumethoden für Gemüse und Obst haben wir zusammen mit Edward auch in Katito begonnen, eine neue Spirulinazucht aufzubauen. Er hat festgestellt, dass in nahegelegenen Simbi See natürlich wachsendes Spirulina zu finden ist. Ansässige Flamingos, für die Spirulina als Nahrungsquelle dient, waren ein Zeichen für Spirulinavorkommen in dem See. Daher hatte er die Idee, das Wasser des Sees auf seine Qualität und Zusammensetzung zu testen. Die Wasserqualität stellte sich als geeignet für die Spirulinazucht heraus. Daraufhin beschlossen wir zusammen mit Edward, eine neue Zuchtanlage am Ufer des Sees zu errichten und das dortige Wasser dafür zu verwenden. Ein erstes kleines Testbecken wurde bereits von Edward gebaut und eine Spirulina-Mutterkultur eingesetzt. Sobald sich die Alge in dem Becken erfolgreich vermehrt, werden wir mit dem Bau einer großen Anlage für die Spirulinazucht beginnen.
