It’s finally time again, we are visiting Kenya again!

After Marie spent a few weeks in Kenya last April, Philipp and Chris have now set off on their journey. Together, they are visiting our local partners to strengthen cooperation and discuss the next steps in our joint projects. This is our first visit to Kenya in over a year and we are delighted to finally be able to work with our local partners in person again!

Our goal at Thriving Green is to combat malnutrition in Kenya through sustainable and innovative nutrition concepts. In collaboration with our committed local partners, we have launched projects that not only contribute to improving food security, but also create sustainable income opportunities for the local population.

During their stay in Kenya, Chris and Philipp visit our long-standing partner Eddy near Kisumu, meet with Zachuas from the Inua Village to Global Foundation (IVTG) and pay a visit to Grace from Spirulina Dietary and Advocacy (Sdaa).
Together with Eddy and Robert from the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), we are working on a joint spirulina project. They are currently testing different types of water and mother cultures to determine the best conditions for spirulina growth in order to maximize production efficiency. We are also working with Grace from Sdaa to revive the spirulina farms there and want to expand production.

We will also be meeting up with our new partner Dalmas from the Wajir Smart Learning Community Based Organization (WASLE) in Wajir. We also want to set up a sustainable spirulina farm there together. We have chosen the site of the Saada Integrated Academy, a school that is already benefiting from WASLE’s educational initiatives. Initial water analyses have shown that the conditions on site are very suitable for growing spirulina.

Together, we want to be able to supply around 500 pupils with spirulina in the long term. This will enable us to counteract deficiency symptoms and improve the children’s food security. In addition to the health aspects, the improved nutrition can also increase the children’s performance and thus have a positive impact on the local educational situation.

Together with WASLE, we want to get the project up and running in the next few weeks. First, we will build a small cultivation facility with four tanks in which spirulina can grow. We will also build a greenhouse around the facility to protect the tanks from rain and pollution. A drying chamber in which our spirulina can dry will round off our project for the time being.

In order to realize these plans, we need you! We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise the necessary 2,200 euros. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal of building our first spirulina farm in Wajir.
With your help, we can improve the nutritional situation in Wajir in the long term!

We look forward to your support!
