What remains, what’s coming: Our turn of the year at TG

Workflow: {}

A lot has happened at TG in 2025! We’ll take you on a brief journey through the last twelve months.

2025 was a year in which many things took shape for us. Our project in Wajir, Kenya, in particular, made great progress: The spirulina plant was built, the first harvests were brought in, and spirulina is becoming increasingly accepted by the local population. Seeing how planning turns into concrete results and how closely we work with our local partners greatly reinforces our approach to long-term, partnership-based development work. We look forward to further expanding the project in the new year.

At the same time, this year was also marked by changes within the association. After many years of dedicated work on the board and for the association, Jens and Stefan have stepped down from their positions on the Thriving Green board. Both have had a decisive influence on the association over a long period of time: from the founding idea to the establishment of international partnerships to the implementation of concrete solutions to malnutrition. Without them, TG would not be where we are today.

For Jens, this step also means saying goodbye as an active member of Thriving Green. After all these years of dedication, responsibility, and passion, we would like to express our special thanks to him. His commitment has had a lasting impact on the association and made many of today’s structures and projects possible in the first place. For this, Jens will become our first honorary member. Fortunately, Stefan will remain with Thriving Green. Even though he has stepped down from the board, he will continue to support the association in the technical team, contributing his experience and expertise.

Our third board member, Marie, will remain on the board. Her continuity ensures that knowledge, structure, and reliability are maintained. Our newly elected board members Paul and Sophie complete the TG board, which we would like to briefly introduce to you here:

  1. Chair: Paul
    Paul has been part of our operations team for over a year. Together with Niki, he is primarily responsible for our current Wajir project. In addition to his role as first chairman, he will also remain part of the operations team. As a new addition, Paul brings a fresh perspective to our projects, provides valuable input, and brings new momentum to our board and our association’s work.

  2. Chair: Sophie
    Sophie has been an integral part of our marketing and finance team for many years, where her responsibilities include our newsletter, our website, and all forms of graphic design. She will also remain part of the team. Her many years of experience at TG, her enthusiasm for our work, and her determination make her a valuable member of TG and the perfect addition to the board.

  3. Chair: Marie
    Marie has also been part of TG for a long time, has been involved in our operations team for years, and has already gained two years of experience on our board and as chief financial officer. In addition to her work with us, she is also active in the One World Network Bavaria. She thus brings her diverse experience in development work and her personal contacts in Africa to TG. We are delighted that she will continue to lead our association and share her ideas and motivation with us.

Finally, we would also like to thank Ritchey, who shaped and supported TG together with Stefan and Jens from the very beginning and contributed to our success over the years. He also left TG this year to take on new challenges. We wish him all the best!

With new momentum and new faces on the board, we are looking forward to the coming year. We are starting right away in January with the construction of a hydroponics prototype in Kisumu together with ExpeditionXplore! We are also continuing with our spirulina facilities in Wajir and Turkana, and many other exciting projects that would not be possible without external support.

As we turn the corner into the new year, we would like to say one thing above all else: thank you. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied, supported, and helped shape Thriving Green this year: to our local partners, to our sponsors and donors, and to everyone who believes in our work.

💚🌱

We wish you all a great start to the new year!
