Wajir smart learning (WASLE)

Die Wajir smart learning foundation (WASLE) ist eine kenianische Organisation, die digitale Lehrmethoden in die Schulen in Wajir, Kenia bringt. Hierfür haben sie einen Server erstellt, auf dem die Lerninhalte digital gespeichert sind. Diese können dann offline über Laptops oder Tablets abgerufen werden. Zudem beschäftigt sie sich mit den Auswirkungen von Dürre und Klimawandel auf Regionen in Kenia und damit, wie die Ernährung der einheimischen Bevölkerung trotz der Herausforderungen sichergestellt werden kann. Daher hat sich die Initiative schon länger mit alternativen Anbaumethoden, wie der Zucht von Spirulina, beschäftigt. Sie haben sich auch zum Ziel gesetzt, die Bevölkerung über innovative Ernährungskonzepte wie Spirulina zu informieren. Die Menschen vor Ort sollen verstehen, welche Vorteile das Superfood für ihre Ernährung spielt. Nur so kann man erreichen, dass sie das neuartige Nahrungsmittel akzeptieren. Die ambitionierte Arbeit von WASLE hat uns angesprochen. Daher waren wir sofort motiviert, als uns der Vorsitzende von WASLE, Dalmas Otieno Adongo, anschrieb und uns fragte, ob wir mit ihnen zusammen eine Spirulinaanlage in Wajir errichten wollen. Zusammen wollen wir unser Know-how nutzen und auf einem ihrer Schulgelände vor Ort eine Spirulinazucht bauen.

Spirulina in Wajir

Wajir Smart Learning betreibt Schulen an verschiedenen Standorten. Wir haben an drei Standorten die Wasserqualität untersuchen lassen, um festzustellen, welcher Ort am besten für den Anbau von Spirulina geeignet ist. Wie auf unserer Seite über Spirulina beschrieben, benötigt die Alge salziges, alkalisches Wasser für ihr Wachstum. Basierend auf den drei Wasserproben haben wir uns dazu entschieden, in Wajir bei der Saada Integrated Academy zusammen mit WASLE Spirulina anzubauen. Um die Leute vor Ort besser an das unbekannte Nahrungsergänzungsmittel zu gewöhnen, wollen wir Spirulina zunächst mit vertrauter Nahrung kombinieren, wie etwa eine Nussmischung mit Spirulina verfeinern. Der erste Schritt besteht darin, ein kleines Testbecken zu bauen und eine Spirulina-Mutterkultur einzubringen. Der Prototyp soll Aufschluss darüber geben, welche Anpassungen durchgeführt werden müssen, um den Anbau von Spirulina vor Ort erfolgreich durchführen zu können. Sobald die Zucht etabliert ist, soll dadurch eine nachhaltige Versorgung der Menschen vor Ort gewährleistet werden.
