ExpeditionXplore meets Thriving Green: A joint project in Kenya

1

We at Thriving Green are delighted to announce an exciting new project: Together with ExpeditionXplore, we will be active in Kenya at the beginning of next year. Led by Martin Kaiser, the expedition will take the group through various regions of Kenya—with a special stop in Kisumu, where our partner Eddy is based.

Who is ExpeditionXplore?

ExpeditionXplore brings people together with nature, culture, and sustainable projects in a unique way. Their expeditions are more than just adventure trips—they combine experiences in challenging environments with the goal of building bridges between different cultures, sharing knowledge, and establishing sustainable partnerships. The focus is always on not only discovering the world, but also actively shaping it.

Our joint project

One highlight of this stage will be the construction of a prototype hydroponics facility. Hydroponics is an innovative cultivation method in which plants grow without soil, but in a nutrient-rich water solution. This technique is particularly resource-efficient and is ideal for regions where water is scarce or the soil is not very fertile – as is the case in many parts of Kenya. In addition to growing spirulina, we have therefore been interested in hydroponics systems for some time. You can find out more about this here.

We are therefore all the more delighted to have set up this project together with Martin Kaiser and ExpeditionXplore. He and his expedition participants will spend a few days of their trip working with our partner Eddy to build the first hydroponics facility on his property. This will serve as a prototype and hopefully mark the beginning of a second pillar in the fight against malnutrition for Thriving Green and our partners in Kenya.

This project also has a very personal touch for us: Martin Kaiser is no stranger to Thriving Green. As part of his bachelor’s thesis, he was already with us in Kenya and established a novel basin construction for spirulina cultivation, which still influences our work today. It is all the more wonderful that our paths have now crossed again—and that we can launch a new, sustainable solution together with ExpeditionXplore and Eddy.

This project demonstrates once again how valuable it is to maintain networks and exploit synergies. When people and organizations from different backgrounds come together, new ideas and solutions emerge that have an impact beyond the boundaries of individual projects.

We are excited about the exchange, the implementation of the hydroponics prototype, and the inspiration that this expedition will bring.
